BÌNH THUẬN — Authorities of the Hòn Cau Marine Protected Area on Thursday released  一0 三 newly hatched sea turtles into the Hòn Cau Sea in Bình Thuận Province’s Tuy Phong District.

The turtles were looked after in the protected area before they were released into the sea.

Trần Công Lập, head of the patrol team of the marine protected area, said the patrol team had found  一0 三 eggs from one turtle in June. After the sea turtle left, the patrol team moved the eggs to an incubation room in the protected area.

In July, the protected area moved three turtle egg nests to the incubation room on the island, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

About  三00 newly hatched sea turtles from the three nests were released safely into the ocean.

The Hòn Cau Marine Protected Area is one of the country’s most important national marine protected areas.

The rich marine ecosystem contains all the attributes of a tropical marine region such as multiple-coloured corals and seagrass beds.

It is a place providing nesting locations for rare creatures such as sea turtles which have high economic and ecological value.

Patrolling and protecting activities had been successful in stopping illegal marine exploitation and trade and transport of coral in the protected area, Lập said.

Thanks to the patrols, the coral reefs, ecological system and marine organisms are recovering. – VNS
